President Tinubu has approved the Group Life Assurance for federal employees. This program, aims to offer financial support to the families of federal public servants who have passed away, including those who held high-ranking government positions.<\/p>\n
During a press briefing with journalists at the State House in Abuja, following the FEC meeting led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, announced the decision. She explained that the program, applicable for the 2025\/2026 policy year, is intended to offer financial support to the families of deceased federal public servants, which includes high-level government officials.<\/p>\n
She said, \u201cThe Federal Government has taken out a life policy on each public servant. In the unfortunate event of death, the next of kin will receive benefits to cushion the loss.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis underscores the importance that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s administration places on the welfare of federal workers.\u201d<\/p>\n
She stated that the coverage not only applies to civil servants but also encompasses the President, Vice President, Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, and staff within ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) funded by the Treasury.<\/p>\n
The policy is also relevant to major paramilitary and uniformed bodies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigeria Correctional Service, the Federal Fire Service, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Office of the National Security Adviser.<\/p>\n
Walson-Jack mentioned that 17 insurance underwriters are now responsible for managing the policy, which is subject to annual renewal.<\/p>\n
She explained that the policy will be activated once the premiums are paid, adhering to the federal government’s “no premium, no cover” mandate.<\/p>\n
